PALAIS COBURG: A UNIQUE WINE TREASURE WITH 60,000 BOTTLES

The wine collection at Palais Coburg in Vienna hoards titles like others collect stamps: "Best Wine List in the World", "Best Wine List in Europe", "Best Austrian Wine List of the Year". In fact, Palais Coburg guards a unique wine treasure with no less than 60,000 bottles.

THE WINE CELLAR OF PALAIS COBURG HOUSES FINE WINES FROM SEVERAL CENTURIES

In total, there are six wine cellars with fine wines from several centuries, embedded in the fascinating architecture of Vienna's former city wall. All six wine cellars of Palais Coburg captivate with their own individual characteristics and design, possessing a special dedication and the ideal climate for the great wines stored within. Currently, the most expensive wine in the cellar is priced at 135,000 euros.

TREASURES OF THE GREAT WINERIES IN SIX CELLARS

The France Cellar: Here the treasures of the great wine estates of France mature with a focus on Bordeaux, Burgundy & Rhône.  The New World Cellar: Australia, New Zealand, USA. Wines from the New World await discovery here, complemented by wines from the great seafaring nations of Spain and Portugal. The Old Wine Cellar offers an extensive collection of top European wines with an exciting cross-section of excellent Austrian wines. Among other things, there are currently more than 150 different positions of Austrian dry white wines older than the year 2000. 

The Champagne Cellar: Located in the historic former ice cellar of the Palais, the Champagne Cellar holds more than 1,000 exquisite bottles from all the major houses.  The Yquem Cellar houses the pure gold of more than 100 vintages of this precious sweet wine from the legendary French winery. The rarities cellar is home to the most exclusive collector's items and individual bottles of great age. Among them is the oldest bottle in the collection, a Rüdesheim Apostle wine from 1727.

SOMMELIER SHOWS THE EXCITING WORLD OF WINE CELLARS

Once a month, the sommelier opens up the exciting world of the Palais Coburg wine cellars. The guided tour in small groups lasts about one and a half hours and includes, in addition to the sommelier's extensive knowledge, the tasting of one wine per cellar. Dates and costs: Guided tours take place every first Thursday of the month between 6 pm and 7.30 pm. There is a charge of 99 euros per person, and guided tours are available from seven to a maximum of twelve people.
