In the beginning, came the cake: in 1832 Franz Sacher, an apprentice chef at the court of Prince Metternich, created what is probably the most famous cake in the world - the original Sacher Torte. It was Franz Sacher's son Eduard who opened the Hotel Sacher in Vienna in 1876 and, together with his wife Anna Sacher, led it to international notoriety. Even back then, both domestic and international society enjoyed being guests at the Sacher.
